The return of the sub 20 pounds phones. A nice article on how the economy is shaping the gadget industry.

As people spend less and less on consumer electronics this could signify a temporary trend back to the phones of the mid 2000s.

Leading the pack are Alcatel and Samsung, both manufacturers that cater both to the smart phone and low end phone market.

iPlayer on iPhone & iPad – finally happening ?

The BBC’s iPlayer that allows users to watch BBC programs online is hopefully making the transition into the iPhone. This feature has been long due. Some iPad owners infact bought the iPad so that they could use the iPlayer to watch their favourite BBC programs on it.

Tentative dates for release indicate Feb 2011.

iPad to allow Adobe flash based games

Apple has finally decided to let iPad users play flash based games on its iPad.

Apple has apparently approved an app that lets users play games based on a flash based design.

This is surely a great news for many iPad users as flash support has always been an issue with the iPad. With more and more applications using flash, ignoring it totally was something that Apple could not do for long.

Hope Apple continues this trend and frees up other ‘flash’ based restrictions on its iPhone & iPad gadgets. That would be good news for the mobile phone industry as a whole.

Genio Slide – A great phone from Samsung?

Samsung has always tried to break barriers as far as trying out new things are concerned. Especially if its something radical.

The Genio plays up to that spirit very well.

A slide phone with a qwerty keypad, is a great combination on paper. Will it work on a real phone. With the Genio it infact does work very well.

The Genio is one of those better designed phones. Kudos to the designers.

With an active support oriented towards the television lovers, this phone does break the boundaries.

Nokia E72 on Three mobiles

The 3 network is all set to server the Nokia E72 hot on the plates.

Having lost out on most good phones in the last few years, the E72 on 3 is a great start going into 2010.

With all the latest features like Wi-Fi, 3G ofcourse, inbuilt GPS system and a great camera.

The best bit is that Ovi maps are free to use, which means you dont have to pay a fortune to use the GPS feature on the phone.

Overall a great phone. Worth a buy.

Motorola Milestone to have Andriod 2.1 soon

The Andriod community seems to be getting stonger by the day.

The latest version of 2.1 should be available soon on the Milestone, a great product from Motorola.

Motorola has long be struggling to get a decent phone that could fight its way into the top echelons of the smartphone market. This could be the final push that could clinch it for them.

The Milestone has been around for less than an year and has been doing quite well for the Motorola. A welcome change for them.

Sony Ericsson Xperia X10 – On 02

If there has been a Sony Ericsson phone that has been most awaited by the market, the Xperia X10 has to be it.

The flagship product from Sony Ericsson, this phone is supposed to take them back to the upper segment of the smart phone market.

The mobile phone tariffs in the UK on this phone have not been exhorbitant as yet, which means, you could one for a lot less than you think you would pay.

Tariffs starting at around £10 its a great deal. However do expect to pay upfront for the mobile phone.

The new Sony Ericsson Elm

If you are looking for a smartphone at a discount price the new Sony Ericsson Elm is the right phone for you.

It has all the best smartphone features like Wi-Fi, supported apps, 3G, decent camera, internet support etc

The pricing will be at the low-mid range which means that the phone would not cost you a fortune to own.

The best bit about the phone its supposed 48 hour battery life. If Sony Ericsson can pull that off, it would be one of the ‘miracle’ phone of the mobile phone industry.

Apple iPad – just a bulky iPhone?

Apple’s new iPad is slowly but surely losing the shine that the pre-launch euphoria it generated.

The anticipation of a something ‘super’, ‘differen’t and ‘new’ seems be the reason. Guess with Apple we always expect a lot more than the Nokias and the LGs. The iPad infact did turn out to be a massive iPhone that did a few other things.

The reviews would have been different (and positive) only if Apple had managed to scale it slightly higher. For example atleast massive multithreading capabilities and other goodies (that most laptops now do)

Hopefully when we do get hold of one, we might change our opinion of it (that would need a massive wow factor). Till then, it does look like it wont be a massive hit.

Mobile phone advertising to be more targetted in the future

All the UK service providers have now come together to finally measure the exact user usage of their networks. Combining this knowledge with actual data from the sites themselves would help prospective advertisers to actually know the efficiency of mobile advertising and click through levels.

Tracking mobile phone internet has been exceptionally difficult. With only a guesstimate being available at the moment. The fact that there are 100s of avenues to access the internet on the mobile device, each with its own special protocols, browsers and methodologies (compared the browser usage on personal computers, that can be tracked easily using java scripts and cookies).

Also the fact that a standardised browser is yet to arrive in the mobile phone space (unlike the standard 4 to 5 browsers dominated by Firefox and Internet Explorer)

Just hope that users privacy is protected at all costs. Considering that a mobile devices are mapped one on one to an individual users.
